Best thing about San Fran–we didn’t have to drive or park a car. Our campground ran a touring van into the city with a knowledgeable guide who’d grown up in the area. The “painted ladies” (intricately painted Victorian houses) were my favorite thing about San Fran.
Though I enjoyed visiting Sonoma wineries, the best wine I imbibed was at a fantastic restaurant called “the girl and the fig.” I had a flight of four whites, each ambrosial. Lesson: let some experts taste all the wines first and pick the best to serve in their restaurant.
The highlight of our stay in this area, for me, was a visit to Armstrong Redwood Reserve, where we ate a picnic lunch sheltered by those giants. I don’t know what it is about those trees, but they take my breath away.
